Make Your Own Eyeliner with Activated Charcoal

Nothing beats saving money on costly makeup and body care products!

As a woman, I have purchased my fair share of very expensive lotions, potions and make up products. Worse part is, they were all toxic! I didn’t know this at the time, but as I started learning more and more about health and wellbeing, I learned that those expensive over the counter products were truly damaging my skin and creating an internal toxic mess! Yikes!

And that’s why I love do-it-yourself beauty care projects. Cost effective and non-toxic beauty care can be made in the comfort of your own home.

Below, I share a quick how-to video on making your own eyeliner using activated charcoal!

Activated charcoal is an awesome supplement! You can find it in most health food stores for under $10! It’s typically used to help combat the stomach flu or any other stomach upsets. So, it’s definitely something I would recommend you keep on hand at home 😉

Best part is, it takes only minutes to make.

Enjoy!

The Magic Health Formula

It’s how we EAT, MOVE, THINK and SUPPLEMENT.

Personally, I think these are 4 keys to optimal health.

EAT – what are eating?? Is it organic, whole food, found in nature and not from a factory!?

MOVE – are you exercising, weight lifting to maintain bone mass and strength and maintaining mobility? Are you stretching?

THINK – what’s going on in your head? Are you constantly worried, negative, fearful and stressed out? How can you become more proactive instead of reactive?

SUPPLEMENT – are you supplementing strategically to help support your specific nutrient deficiencies?

These are questions we should ask ourselves constantly. Paying attention to these 4 key areas will help you to determine where you may need work or assistance. This will allow you to take the strategic steps to the best health ever.

There are MANY other things I can add to this list, such as SLEEP, HYDRATION, ATTITUDE; but I think the first 4 are ideal for when it comes to assessing your health. It’s the perfect guideline.

So am I suppose to ask myself these questions everyday?

YES!

If you want to lose weight, become more successful, gain more energy and feel awesome, I suggest you ask yourself the above questions daily. It’s all about accountability! You will be able to assess not just what you’re including in your diet and lifestyle, but more importantly, what is missing!

We need to start taking control of how we want to feel. Lighter, brighter, creative and happy! That’s what I aim for.

What feelings are you aiming for, and what steps can you take right now to get closer to your goals?

I salute you on your health journey and commend you on every step you take!

Samantha Gladish xoxo

Chocolatey Black Bean Brownies

Image 2Simple, easy, and mess free!

These brownies are so easy to make. Pile all your ingredients into a food processor and viola! You’ve got delicious brownie batter made from BLACK BEANS!

Yes…ya heard right! These brownies are made with heart healthy, fibrous black beans. I was shocked at how moist they were! They are absolutely delicious and will become a new dessert staple of mine 🙂

I’m prepping for a Women’s Seminar next week and need to introduce them to easy and simple ways to prepare gluten free goodies, minus all the expensive gluten free flours out there. Let’s face it, almond flour, coconut flour; as much as these are staples in my baking, they can be quite costly.

So if you need a chocolate fix that won’t break the bank, make these brownies!

Black beans are packed with protein and fiber, two key macronutrients that help to keep you fuller for longer. This is also beneficial for balancing blood sugar levels.

“One cup of black beans provides over 4 grams of soluble fiber, and this is precisely the type of fiber that researchers have found especially helpful in lowering blood cholesterol levels. Decreased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and myocardial infarct (MI, or heart attack) have both been associated with increased intake of soluble fiber from food” – WHF.

In just 1 cup of black beans, you’ll get a super dose of magnesium, B1, folate and iron. All nutrients essential for your health. Not to mention the extra magnesium and antioxidant boost you’ll get from the added cacao powder!

Now let’s get backing!

Gluten Free Chocolatey Black Bean Brownies

Ingredients:

1 14oz. can black beans (I use Eden Organic)
3 organic eggs
½ cup of cacao powder
½ cup coconut oil, softened (room temp)
½ cup coconut sugar
½ cup of dark chocolate chips
1 tsp ground vanilla bean or vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon of baking soda
½ cup roughly chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350F
and grease a brownie pan with coconut oil.
2. Add all ingredients except walnuts to a food processor and puree to create your batter.
3. Add batter to brownie pan and gently stir in walnuts.
4. Bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Other ingredient options:

– Add 1/3 cup dried cherries for extra sweetness

– Try using ½ cup maple syrup instead of coconut sugar

– Butter works well instead of coconut oil

– High quality cocoa powder can substituted for cacao

– Top with toasted coconut flakes

Why You’re Aging & What To Do About It

Getting older does not need to be scary.

I fully embrace getting older, but I just don’t want it showing up on my face!

Wrinkles, age spots, drier skin….this can all be avoided with the right diet and supplementation!

Yes…that’s right. AVOIDED!

You know that saying, “You are what you eat!” Well….it’s true. If you’re eating hydrogenated vegetable oils, a ton of sugar, drinking coffee, consuming gluten and dairy, you could be aging faster!

All these foods deplete your body of vital nutrients. Without these nutrients, your skin and your body starts to break down. Your skin loses its suppleness, it becomes drier and more scaly, wrinkles appear faster and your bones and joints start to ache.

So what do we do?? And what is it in the first place that’s causing us to age?

Watch my quick video below where I share WHY you’re aging and WHAT to do about it!

I share what you need to ditch from your diet and what you need to include more of.

Enjoy 🙂

Happy Aging…Gracefully 🙂

Why I’m So Proud of My Mama…

I am so proud of my mama…

Early in December my moms fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis got the best of her. She spent all of the holidays in so much pain she could barely walk. She couldn’t sleep and spent many nights crying in pain.

Years of stress, being on her feet and not taking time for herself caught up to her.

I’ve posted about my mom before, and how much I’ve learned so much from her and have taken on many of her culinary skills

You see…even though my mom is a fabulous cook and makes everything from scratch, she truly never understood what GMO’s meant, or the importance of eating organic, and the damaging effects of gluten and dairy.

So when her pain got to the point of crippling, she started to listen.

She’s been juicing, making a ton of green smoothies, eating better quality protein, lots of good quality fats, drinking a TON of water and eliminating gluten and dairy.

She’s been more conscious about purchasing organic and even threw out a bunch of her toxic household cleaning and skin care products.

She visited a rheumatology specialist who put her on a cocktail of medications which I didn’t completely agree with, but I understand that she needed the relief. This MD rolled her eyes at me when I spoke of supplements and nutrition and the mention of my Integrative Medical Doctor. Such lack of respect and support.

Then I booked her an appointment with my Doctor at the Markham Integrative Medicine Clinic. There, my mom received a 1hr consult, got an anti inflammatory supplement protocol and did a live blood cell test which showed she was severely B12 deficient.

Now…she barely has any pain. She can walk. Sleep better. Think better and she’s lost 15lbs! In her own words she told me “I feel so happy!” This all happened in a short 4 week period!

YOU…are so capable of creating the LIFE you want! It is YOUR birthright to live with abundant good health.

I hope my mother can be an inspiration for you to create positive change with your health.

You are SO WORTH IT!

Listen to the whispers of your body. My mother ignored them for years and spent weeks in agony.

Prevention is EVERYTHING.

I’m here for you xoxo

And mama….I’m so proud of you!

Happy Halloween! Cinnamon Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

Happy Halloween!

How more fitting to celebrate this super fun day then to make recipes full of pumpkins!

I absolutely LOVE pumpkins! From pie, to smoothies, to pancakes and even lattes…..I’ve been whipping up pumpkin recipes like no tomorrow!

I think I may have to stock pile cans of organic pumpkin puree just so I can continue to make delicious recipes this season!

This smoothie recipe have become a staple in my morning routine. Delicious, easy to make and nourishing!

Pumpkin is incredibly rich in beta carotene – a super nutrient that converts to vitamin A. This incredible vitamin helps boost your immune system, is heart protective and is essential for eye health.

In just 1 cup of pureed pumpkin (organic of course!), you get a whooping 7 grams of fibre and 3 grams of protein. Plus, its really low cal (if you’re into that whole calorie counting thing….me…not so much!). This makes it a perfect addition to your morning smoothies! Protein + fibre = a happy and full tummy!

I’ve added some extra key ingredients to my pumpkin smoothie, such as additional protein for the extra fullness factor, immune support and beautiful lean muscle building benefits. Can’t go wrong with a little extra protein! 🙂

Some extra fruit and blood sugar balancing cinnamon gave this smoothie the perfect sweetness!

Also, take a look at the pumpkins we carved this year! Every year my boyfriend and I get together with his sisters and we have a pumpkin carving contest! I won this year! Yay! I carved BANE (villain from Batman) and it was a winner! Thought he would make the perfect Halloween Villain!

Happy Carving!
