Collagen – It’s probably the biggest buzz word ever!
It’s amazing how brand after brand is catching onto this amazing trend and launching collagen products left, right and centre. My current favourite collagen is by CanPrev. They have an entire collagen line! Their Beauty collagen comes in both liquid and powder form.
I remember years ago when I worked in a health food store, collagen was just a by-product. It wasn’t important, no cared about it and if you were a vegan buying supplements, you were cautious to avoid collagen/gelatin since it does come from beef. (*as a note, gelatin is used in many supplements as it works as a binder and makes capsules easier to swallow).
It’s funny how things change. Years ago, my grandmother, who made everything from scratch, used up every part of the animal and when she made her soups, she would first start out with making bone broth, which of course, was naturally full of gelatin and collagen.
Back in the day – grandma’s knew what was up! They knew the importance of bone broth. To them it wasn’t some fad – it was necessary for cooking, health, longevity and making use of all your ingredients without being wasteful.
I miss eating my grandmothers soups so much!
Not only were they full of so much love and care, but they were loaded with anti-aging benefits (thanks to all that gelatin and collagen) and made with natural ingredients right from the backyard.
As a Nutritionist, I help many of clients not just with weight loss and hormonal support, but especially with my PCOS clients, I help them clear up their cystic acne. And I have many menopausal clients that are looking to replenish that radiant youthful glow and slow down the aging process! I teach all my beautifying secrets and tips in my CleanBeautyU course.
There is where collagen comes in!
Collagen is essentially, the protein that holds our body together.
It is known that by our mid-twenties, our bodies start losing their natural ability to repair connective tissue, bones, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, blood cells, skin, tissue, hair and nails. Scientists have discovered that hydrolyzed collagen can provide the missing nutritional links to aid in the body’s ability to repair these critical areas. Hydrolyzed collagen is a unique combination of amino acids that can promote healing and conditioning over other protein, especially for bone and joint health care.
What makes Collagen unique are the amino acids, particularly alanine, glycine and proline. The same collagen which is found naturally in your bones, skin and cartilage can be replenished with hydrolyzed collagen, plus it promotes cell growth and helps to lubricate joints and build tissue.
So what does this mean for your skin?
It means more skin elasticity, better skin moisture, less dryness and less skin roughness. Plus, it helps keep cellulite and stretch marks in check! When skin loses its elasticity as a result of decreased collagen, there’s a good chance you will have more visible cellulite. Improving your skin’s elasticity through collagen helps reduce that dimpling on your skin – how amazing is that!?
I’ve been supplementing with collagen almost daily now for just over 2 years and my skin has improved greatly! In fact, it has actually changed the physical appearance of my face by making my check bones more prominent! NO joke!
Not to mention, my skin is clear, glowing and those wrinkles are in check! It’s not wonder I still get carded at the LCBO and I’m going to be 34 next month!
If you follow me on Instagram you’ve heard me speak about my morning anti-aging elixir drink. Which is warm water + apple cider vinegar + collagen = simple, healthy, great for digestion, liver detoxification and for skin, hair, nails and joints.
But, that ain’t the only collagen elixir I like to whip up. Today, I’m sharing with you 4 Delicious Anti-Aging Collagen Elixirs/Lattes that you are going to loooove. They are beautifying for your whole being. Let me know in the comments below which one is your favourite!
